Troubleshooting limited or no connectivity error in Windows XP with Service Pack 2

If the wireless client is configured for automatic addressing and a DHCP server is not present, then Windows XP assigns an Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) address that begins with 169.254. With an APIPA address, the wireless client might not be able to reach other nodes on the SOHO network and will not be able to reach the Internet. If an APIPA address is assigned to the wireless connection, computers running Windows XP with SP2 display "Limited or no connectivity" for the status of the wireless connection.

To resolve this issue:

1. Double click the Wireless Network Connection icon display in the notification area as shown above.

2. Click Limited or no connectivity link shown in the top right corner as highlighted in the above image.

3. In the Wireless Network Connection status window click Repair button (highlighted in the below image) .

4. The connection to the Wireless network will be disconnected and an attempt to release/renew the IP address will be made(as shown the in below images)

This process should assign a new IP addresses and enable you to connect to your Wireless network.
